I'm interested in learning to play keyboards, and was thinking that maybe there was something like Guitar Hero or Frets on Fire that would let me hook up my keyboard to Ubuntu via MIDI (I've already done that part) and give me something interesting to do for practice, like a game.
Is there such a thing, or is it still a figment of my imagination?

Yes. I got a Keystation 49e with USB connection. It works with Timidity. If you want more information, check out the Synthesiagame at wine AppDB: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=5808

Try PianoBooster http://pianobooster.sourceforge.net
It's an open source program which uses QT4
Though they don't have any packages for Ubuntu it isn't hard to compile it yourself, and it works great for me on my Keystation 49e.
