SOLVED:
Since posting first note, I found Flecko's solution posted here in he forum. Works like a charm, and taught me not be overly fearful of xorg.conf.
My thanks,
s.
Thanks to NewLinux, my main mythbox is now pretty much doing what I need.
So pushing ahead, I'm trying to turn a VIA C7-D 1.5GHz CPU + VIA CN700 Chipset box (one of those WalMaart 'green' specials) into a second boxen.
Going in, I had read that VIA chipsets can be problematic, but pressed ahead because, well, because I already had it.
I tried the install two ways yesterday using the onboard video - once with the open chrome driver, once without.
I was using a Hauppauge PVR USB 2 for a tuner, and what I got was jerky, stuttering video.
So today I installed a PVR-350 card, thinking the problem could be at either the encoding or decoding end. I re-ran setup and went into the tv settings and enabled the 'use pvr 350' option.
When all was said and done (and rebooted) I got a "video won't initialize" message.
So two things: what am I doing wrong with the 350? And should I return to trying the onboard video on the VIA mobo, using some different strategy?
Thanks,
Scott A.
