Hey I was wondering if it's possible to run model 2 games through sdlmame? It lists model2 games in the game list but the games I try running are all buggy and you can't even get to the first menu screen. I know there are some model 2 emulators out there, but I was wondering if you can play these games through mame. There are some good driving games I wanted to check out.

I have had the same issues when trying to run any of the variations of Strider 2. I think it has more to do with the core MAME than it does with the pc, user, or OS. Of course I do not use M$ Windows so I do not know how Sega Model 2 games run on another OS.
You have to remember that MAME is a M$ Windows based program that is ported to Linux so we cannot expect it to match exactly.

The core of SDLMame is the same as the Windows variant, or so I'm led to believe. You shouldn't be experiencing glitches or bugs in Ubuntu that are any different from the ones they get in Windows' Mame. Having used both I can certainly attest to that, but if anyone has any contrary evidence I am quite happy to be proven wrong. I'm no expert, just a games fan!

No, Model 2 games generally do not work at this time, MAME devs are still working on it. Some games will get to title screens and maybe even farther, but emulation is still not complete at this time.
And SDLMame is exactly the same emulationwise as mainline MAME. The actual emulation code is NO different, since they use exactly the same codebases. The ONLY difference is the way each one renders the emulation onscreen and interfaces with gamepads, etc (i.e. Windows GDI/DirectX/whatever technique it uses vs. SDL). So if it works/doesn't work with mainline MAME, it will be exactly the same with SDLmame.

Not really possible. Some of them run with tons of glitches. The only way is to use El Semi`s Model 2 emulator. It`s close to perfection and almost everything works great there. SLDmame is the same as windows builds so what works there works on SDLmame. However you can play a lot of CHD games on SDLmame :)
