right im the type of person who HAS to have his desktop looking right and when i first installed gutsy gibbon i thought the default theme was horrible
i believe that new users get a strong impression by the look and feel of an operating system and i don't think the orange theme helps
i would love to see a new logo for ubuntu (maybe even just nicer colors)
the ubuntu media edition logo looks great but the standard edition one isn't to good

i think a better looking desktop would help in the new hardy heron release, any color but orange would suite nicely blue, green, red, black, metallic. it would all look better than the current orange

thanks for reading

Hey, since we're expressing our opinions here...I'll let mine loose. I think the default theme is excellent, the color scheme unique, and the logo meaningful. Bravo Ubuntu!

Not horrid, perhaps, but uninspiring and a bit tired.
I've hopes that desktop gurus will produce something a bit imaginative in Hardy.

And I too fancy the orange and brownish look of the default ubuntu gnome theme! =D

It looks nice.

It does look nice. :)

Edit: On an unrelated note, doddo, what's up with your avatar? Is that a hunk of meat w/ toothpics as teeth and olives for eyes?

the goldish desktop some one posted does look ok, better than the original orange,

I don't think that the orange is horrid. However I didn't keep it. I myself look at any OS theme and think "how can I make it look better to me?" Then I check out the options and make it happen as close as I can get. My desktop suits my personal preferences perfect. The easy customization is what drew me to Linux in the first place.
Here is a screenie of my desktop:

Black: yes. Intimidating: Maybe (yes! yes! yes!). Thanks for the compliments on it. I do think that the Ubuntu logo could use changing. Does anyone know where the folder with it is? If no-one knows I'll do some searching.

Looks pretty good, top bar is pretty bulky though. I like small form factor.

Well personally I like the orange, but the rubbish brown backgrounds have got to go.

I like the first also. It has a better form factor. Plus it's not black(but that's just me[black is the only color])

I like this one, it seems to me a good balance between brown and light colors. Also, it reminds me of coffee! :lolflag:
