I don't believe Linux is ready for the desktop... yet, but its not Linux's fault :). 3rd parties don't allow it to be ready . Linux has many advancements that windows nor mac have come even close to. the sad truth is Linux is almost a perfect os, but we/you need to get 3rd party support... and therefore it is not linux's fault that its not ready, blame the 3rd parties
also, if you don't have something constructive to say, don't say it!

I agree, A lot of companies seem to ignore LInux, and don't create versions of their software/drivers/etc for Linux. I think because Windows is so popular they don't see the need to make stuff for LInux.
I'll agree though, Linux is way better than WIndows! Although, we may run into problems such as driver support, 3rd party stuff, etc, I don't mind. Would you really want linux to be main-stream anyway?
Personally, I kind of like that it's not as popular as WIndows. Main-stream stuff kind of lessens the value....to me at least, it seems more special the way it is.
So yeah....LInux isn't ready for the Desktop...yet..But I like it that way:D

having hardware that still doesn't work under Linux is, at least for me, to want Linux to be more mainstream (not that I've had any hardware related issues with Linux)

An ancient Atari 400 is "desktop ready" enough to do work, study, play, or just kill time. Modern OSes like Linux, Mac and that other one are serious overkill.
In fact, the "OS" is really just Linux. All the rest are applications that make life more convenient and save time, but are not really necessary.
