[SOLVED] Fonts

Hello I am fairly new to ubuntu and have been working with ms for so long I am glad that I got rid of it. I'm taking classes for graphic art and have been working with inkscape and gimp still learning the ropes. I would like to download fonts and be able to use them. After downloading the fonts were do I install them so I could use them any ware in the system? Thanks I really do appreciate your help.
