Has anyone read George Ou's How does the average Joe patch Linux? (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/index.php?p=106)? It had me cracking up laughing out loud. Ubuntu's update notifier couldn't possibly be easier to use, and all the "average Joes" (and Janes) I know don't even update their Windows installations or programs--"average" people don't update anything.
Anyway, if you need a good laugh, read the link above.

I'm glad I have cordless keyboard. I'm writing this on floor, laughing out loud. That's funny. :D It's such a pain to keep my Linux boxes patched... I'd love to own some Windows boxes that I could so easily keep up to date using... oh... does WSUS update all my applications too? No? I think I will have to keep paying 0€/year for using apt and Ubuntu repositories. I guess that's the price of being geek and computer savvy.

And also that redhat == redhat enterprise edition.
"Average Joes" would use Fedora.

I have said it before. WWW IT Journalism is rubbish .They do not waste time and effort gathering facts and ensuring their works of fiction are even well written.
Ignore them , reading them only encourages them.

that guy should be ashamed for publishing such misinformed an article.
One of the very amazing things with ubuntu is synaptics. Two clicks, and your ENTIRE system (OS & applications) is up to date. I used to spen so much time checking online whether this or that app could be updated under XP, when i tried linux, it was like seeing the light. better yet, if you cron the apt-get operations, you constantly have an up to date system, without any actual action.
my guess is though, that if he concentrated on red hat, it is because red hat is an actual company. he seems part of the people who cannot grasp how something can be free. the thought of mark shuttleworth giving his money to fund an OS distributed freely without any kind of licence fee would probably give him a heart attack.

The reason for him making that slashdot caliber article is just to draw the zealots out of the woodwork. What better way to draw them out than baiting them with FUD and Microsoft vs <insert buzz word> comparisons loaded with idiocy?

Does anyone else feel like they've just read half an article?

I spent about 20 seconds hunting for the "Next Page" link. It just kind of ended on a half-finished thought.

Lol, has anyone tried reading any of his other "recent entries'? You'll laugh some more, I think the guy is truly idiotic:)
They post his articles over on OSNews (http://osnews.com) a lot, I think for the comic relief

They post his articles over on OSNews (http://osnews.com) a lot, I think for the comic relief  I don't know. I have to admit MS Office has it over OpenOffice for a lot of things, but even implying that Internet Explorer is in any way safer than Firefox is ridiculous. I don't care how many "exploits" Firefox has--the patches come out sometimes as soon as the next day, if not within a week, and I have never seen or heard of a single case of any of these "exploits" actually be exploited. I see on a weekly basis, however, the handiwork of Internet Explorer security breaches.
