Ubuntu Linux is Great! Just made the switch 2 days ago! I'm using a Compaq V2013 (aka HP dv1000) and it detected everything but the winmodem and firewire ports! Now I'm still dual-booting into XP as I need my Connection(56K that is)! other than that, it's better than I expected!

My experience wih Ubuntu is only 3 days and counting, but it's amazing! I learned a LOT about linux in 3 days! Ubuntu is so easy and at the same time configurable.

Magiging gaming OS ko ang Ubuntu. Can you believe my system runs games faster in this than Windoze? WOW!

im 90% ubuntu, 10% Windows, cuz of games

it took me 6-7hours to download Ubuntu, I have hoary, breezy live cd, and breezy which i dl'd 2x.. lol.. I also dl'd Fedora Core 4 (4cd) before I found about Ubuntu, im just lucky i did not like FC4... hehehe

meron na ata commercial application to mount NTFS na pwede read and right, sabi Safe daw un pero ewan ko lang, naka NTFS din ung 2nd HD ko dati, pero fat32 na ngaun, wala nren kc kwenta kung mag NTFS pa sa Ubuntu.. ehehe. kaya i backup mo nalang yang Files mo sa NTFS, tapos i-reformat mo nalng to Fat32, tapos saka mo I transfer ung backup files mo sa 2nd HD.

Galing ng ubuntu. Sabi nga nila the best things in life are free. Free OS, free word processors, fee spreadsheet, free etc.

Noong una i was hesitant to try another linux. Hirap kasi dahil configure lang ng printer hirap na. Pero sa ubuntu configure ko printer ko very easy pala.

I still use win xp kasi kasama naman sya sa binayaran ko noong bumili ako ng laptop.

Ewan ko because I'm still new with linux and ubuntu pero naconfig nya internet connection ko using a linksys router. Dapat siguro config mo muna pppoe mo.

the command is:

sudo pppoeconf

tapos punta ka sa networking at i-activate mo ung ethernet card mo.

Install ko kasi ubuntu minus the network installation dahil di ko pa configure router ko. pero nung na configure sya sa windows I was amazed na na configure din sya sa ubuntu.

btw, pati wireless connection sa laptop configure din nya. Galing talaga ng ubuntu.

Well I hope this help. But if it does not, what do I know? I'm just a newbie here.

been using linux for about 3 years now. ubuntu is the closest things i've got to a desktop that "just works". i use ubuntu for work and at home as a primary desktop. yes. its possible to use it for work. i would appreciate a working network manager though. i hope its in breezy now. switching from wired to wireless is still a pain.

great job to ubuntu overall. thanks for all the hard work. i look forward to contributing soon.

reden - walang command na kailangan. Pero siguraduhin mo lang na naka declare sya sa fstab mo para pag-reboot/login mo ay automagic na syang mounted. Click mo itong use ME sa sig ko then look for the mount ntfs.

Try mo rin itong "sudo mount -a"

Hindi ko sigurado kung nasa same pc (diff partitionor hard disk) per kung samba yata ay pwede na. Pareho tayo ng ginawa (fat32) para ma-access.

It's basically the same apps. But since its Preview, there are a lot of bugfixes. You can actually upate to the final version if you prefer to save your current settings.

pero un server_ console lang ang lumalabas eh. di kpa alam kung panu mga command eh..

hehe.. sorry about that, pero trial lang ung dinownload ko.. ehehe. pero tempted pren sa torrents... LOL, anyways, im trying my best not to use pirated softwares that's one of the reason I switched to Linux, recently Im been trying to learn Gimpshop, alternative for Photoshop(which u need crossover office to work) and NVU alternative for Dreamweaver, and they works fine, I was able to publish my site from scratch using those too apps... and Im proud to say that.... Im piracy free PC user! w00t! w00t!

Why not just learn GIMP itself rather than using the gimpshop hack? I'd rather not use the term alternatives because they're not. If Photoshop ran natively in Linux and there's GIMP, you could probably say one of them is the alternative (whoever had the other market share).

If you can code directly, you can just use any text editor or you can use Bluefish :)

lol... i thought GIMP and Gimpshop is the same.. lol.. anyways, do only think I dont want with GIMP is that it uses 3 window instead just a single window... it's really hard to work that way... for me.

hehe.. I code and I design, so I really like WYSIWYG, and does bluefish has site upload capabality?

Try it out yourself :) It supports a good number of markup languages.

My issue with Nvu is that its basically Mozilla composer with a few tweaks. It's also one reason why its not promoted to main, is because the distro will have two instances of Mozilla installed..with different versions I believe...so in a support mindset, Ubuntu will be supporting two versions of Mozilla...which isn't a good idea...

In my opinion, Quanta Plus is much better than Nvu though :)

Pipol, count me in. I have been using ubuntu breezy for the past 1 week. I just moved from mandriva le 2005. so far so good though am still booting in win xp to play some dvd's. ubuntu does play with dvds after some tweaking but my legacy laptop can't stand the memory requirement for dvd playing. anyway, to make gnome a little lighter i dropped metacity and used openbox instead as wm.

dami pa lang pinoy na linux users...may taga tagum pa...i used to be there a lot.

Iyung IskoLinux (from UP?) - ano ang say ng UP dito? Hindi ba nila ito pino-promote man lang kahit for university use (or kahit sa isang college or classroom man lang)?

Sayang ang lahat ng ito ano? Lalo pa sana ngayon na malakas ang dating ng BSA at ng OMB sa panghuhuli sa pirated software. Nuong bago pa lang akong nagba-browse dito sa Ubuntu, ang nakita kong mga miyembro na Pinoy (who is keeping the Pinoy Ubuntu Wiki) ay mostly taga Ayala Alabang, Makati at QC ewan ko na lang ngayon kung nadagdagan na.

May effect ba yung autofs? That already happened to me once.. but now, I had no autofs package installed and everything still automounts.

Alingatong - Huwag GNOME and gamitin mong desktop. Try XFCE (Xubuntu) para hindi gumapang (at least lumakad - kahit hindi takbo). Search mo ang XFCE dito sa forum para makita mo ang pag-install ng Xubuntu.

Caldera Open Linux was the first distribution that I actually bought. I still have the complete package at home. It used the LISA installer that had a Tetris game at the end, It was pretty advanced back then.

yohji213 - ano ang modem mo ethernet or usb? Kung ethernet, type mo lang sa terminal ang "sudo pppoeconf"....maglalabas ng bagong window...then dito mo na ilalagay ang lahat ng details (username, password) - basahin mo lang lahat and it will be one everytime until you decided to turn off your pc. BTW, ito ang gamit namin kung xDSL at ethernet ang connection, pero kung USB ay hindi ko na masasagot (most of the post - although Speedtouch USB - ay nahihirapan sila mag-connect).

You don't need it then. Your sources.list in Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy) already has ubuntu backports listed only needs to be uncommented (along with universe and multiverse).

Well i know a lot of people who use Linux everyday - and they're no geeks at all. Some of them are accountants, lawyers, even some government people. Desktop usage is increasing because the applications are more mature now. 8 years ago, you have to manually configure XFree86 to have a working desktop. Installing Linux now is sometimes much easier than installing Windows. The simplicity of the GNOME desktop makes it appealing to newcomers. Some also like the cheerful, bubbly appearance of KDE. With the upcoming desktop initiatives expect major improvements to your desktop experience.

Ganito kasi nangyayari sa akin... kapag naglalagay ng CD or DVD for the first time, wala namang problema. Kaya lang, kapag nagpalit ka ng CD/DVD, may magagawang isa pang panibagong icon sa Computer, at doon siya maima-mount. Dahil dito, maaari mong paramihin ang iyong mga CD drive icons sa computer hangga't gusto mo, like this:

Sa tingin ko puro dummies lang naman iyun, at isa lang naman talaga ang icon ng CD mo, kaya lang nakakalito.

Kaya lang, kapag nagpalit ka ng CD/DVD, may magagawang isa pang panibagong icon sa Computer, at doon siya maima-mount. Dahil dito, maaari mong paramihin ang iyong mga CD drive icons sa computer hangga't gusto mo, like this:

Sa tingin ko puro dummies lang naman iyun, at isa lang naman talaga ang icon ng CD mo, kaya lang nakakalito.

You can subscribe as digest mode if the traffic is pretty much, that way you'll only receive one or two emails a day. :D
