Hi
I was wondering if it is possible, and at all practical, to run games using virtaulbox? i.e. running linux as main OS, running windows under virtualbox, and running a game through windows. If you hadn't noticed, im new and have never used virtualbox, so be kind with your answers :)
Cheers
Shaun

i think running games under virtualbox wount work because virutal box doesn't support directx or something like that.. btw it would be very slow anyway cause virtualbox using alot of resources anyway

Really depends on how powerful your computer is and what games you want to play...
I only have 512MB RAM and my virtual box only allows me to allocate 256MB of it and I only get 16MB of video...
With VM Workstation ($$ I believe) you get more video support and with the a strong enough processor and RAM, I think the idea will be (still in Beta I think) that you can run anything.
I guess a good place to start would be... what are your specs.. and what games do you want to play?

Moved to Virtualization.
The problem with Virtualbox and other VMs is that they use software to "virtualize" the hardware. This means, essentially, that you're not going to be able to do anything which requires hardware graphical accelleration, which includes many games. Dual-booting is a better solution for most modern Windows games.

Second best, but yeah, short of dual-booting Wine/Cedega is the best option.
Wine keeps a pretty up-to-date list of compatible apps here (http://www.winehq.org/).

Indeed Cedega costs money. However, it is also better at handling games than Wine is, though Wine isn't too far behind. There are also cases where games work in Wine but not in Cedega (and vice versa).
Currently I run CS 1.6 on Wine, ditched Cedega last year.
