Why haven't KDE and Xfce merged? Can they merge or does the source code not go good together? I know you can run them side by side, but I want Xfce and KDE to merge into one awesome DE (Desktop Environment)! If they could merge or if anyone knows a way to merge them then it would be better than e17 and/or Gnome, at least for me.

KDE and XFCE run on two different toolkits, so technically it would be as hard as "merging a cat and a toaster" (that was quoted from another post here). Besides, E17 is the best DE ever, in my opinion. :p

I think because they're not trying to murder gnome and e17

If (in your opinion) they suck so badly, wouldn't they suck even worse together? Besides, more choice is always a good thing.

********Xfce and KDE SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gnome also sucks!!!!!!!!!!!*******

Ok..I have never understood the need that some people seem to have to post stuff like this. IMHO this is nothing more than flame bait....just my two cents.

I agree with that.

If anything, Gnome and Xfce should merge.

KDE3 is a fine piece of software. KDE4, however, well...sucks.

yeh so far.
But I would like to see some things that are on gnome be ported over to xfce... the menu editor for one

4.1 should relieve the suckage.

I think you're confused. KDE rawks! Especially once KDE4 comes into it's own and is stable... I think it will be the death of Gnome, imho.

4.1 should relieve the suckage.

It didn't. It wasn't supposed to. It was bug fixes. 4.1 will hopefully bring kde4 into the forefront, but I'm thinking more like kde 4.2.

+1
Xfce REALLY needs a better menu editor.

I think I would want Xfce to be merged with Gnome.

I changed my mind, because I started using KDE... tried to. ;) And I think it sucks.

I also enjoy using gOS, so I decided I would also want e17 to be merged with Xfce.

Or all 3 to be mixed.

I know that mixing Xfce and Gnome is impossible, but is it impossible to mix e17 and xfce?

Or mix all 3?? :)

WRONG! More choice leads to a confusion... Windows has 1 choice and there is no confusion. Here on Linux you can't even run a KDE programs on Gnome, well you can, but it will crash your system.

Now that is what i call a confusion, soo unexperienced users will never know which programs they can or cant use, which will lead to repetitive system crashes, which will lead to users returning back to crappy Windows.

My oppinion:

Windows = crappy core, great desktop
Linux = vice versa

Really? I've installed linux on more computers than the number of times you've changed your underwear, and never once have I had a problem running kde apps in gnome, or the other way around. I'm sure MANY other people will back me up on this. Please don't spread FUD.

My opinion: linux is awesome. Use what works for you, and have a nice day.

Agreed. I do it all the time, apps from Xfce, GNOME, or KDE in either of those three DEs.
