Steam seems to be having some trouble with Wine. I recently used Wine-Doors to install steam. The steam browser works a bit badly. I can't type text into the search box, and when I try to install a demo or buy a game, it browses to a blank white page. Refresh just takes me back to the page where I clicked on the buy/install button, and trying again over and over produces the same result.

All I wanna do right now is play Portal. :(

Wine and Steam have a lot of problems. I don't know for sure, but I think that you can't buy games on Wine. I know there are some issues with the browser as when I've used it, it's never really worked properly.

I'm having the exact same problem. I'd love to know if there's a solution. Oddly enough if you run wine iexplorer http://www.steampowered.comand attempt to browse your way to the purchase of a game, it does pretty much the same thing that steam does (sans the blank white page). Just a guess, but I'd say its less likely a steam-specific problem and more likely a problem w/ the current gecko/iexplore

Hrm. I know that the latest version of Wine lets you buy stuff in Steam, because I bought Audiosurf on Steam just a week ago...

What version of Wine are you using? I know that buying stuff on Steam didn't work a few versions ago - I can only vouch for the current version.

I haven't tried since upgrading my wine. I didn't realize that Wine-Doors had installed an older version.

Since upgrading, I've been able to get Warcraft 3 to play just fine, even on Battle.net. I'll have to give Steam another shot.

Good call, aoanla -- I upgraded to 0.9.56; problem solved, no more blank page when going to the purchase context popups and beyond.
FYI, it also, crashed when sorting by meta score -- that's fixed now as well.
