Looking for suggestions on a PCI sound card with an optical SPDIF out port that is known to work with Mythbuntu. Brands/model numbers or links to the actual product for sale somewhere would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I used to use a Soundblaster Audigy - just the cheapest oem version, with Creative's optical adapter. Worked great with myth.

I am using the coax output from my new motherboard now though.

Also, you can get 3rd party converters

I think I found the creative optical adapter you were talking about.

This would be perfect as I have an old Audigy card from an old gamer that I don't use anymore! Does sending the audio through this adapter work the same as described in this HowTo?

Yep, that's the one.

I don't know if everything in that article is right but ALSA:spdif is the correct device. I fairly sure that, and setting passthrough, was all I had to do.

Awesome! Thanks very much for your help. Shopping around for a place to place to buy the adapter now.
