PC Linux OS is number one on distrowatch.com
I think it does not deserve to be named the best as Ubuntu is better. Definitely better.
Better software
Better stability
Better looks
MUCH larger and friendly community
For example, when I tried to sudo apt-get update mirrors for PCLOS, I constantly got errors. Never happened with Ubuntu.
Fonts and window styles in default PCLOS installation are plain ugly. Ubuntu looks very attractive. I always get aghhhhhhs from my Windows friends.
I believe Ubuntu deserves to be number one on distrowatch.com
Not that it is that important to us, Ubuntu users, but it may give wrong impression to new Linux users.
So I suggest you spend a little of you time and go to www.distrowatch.com and click on Ubuntu in Page Hit Raniking to correct this unfairness

Does PCLinuxOS even use APT?

What would that prove? Does the ability to click repeatedly on a web site actually mean that the person doing the clicking has a superior operating system? I'm fairly certain that I could accomplish that with my old Nokia cell phone.

no, we are not.
Look at Page Hit Count on the FRONT page
I'll tell you what I did:
I decided to switch to Linux a couple of years ago. I had some experience with it, but not so much. I knew Red Hat Linux, SuSE and ALTLinux.
I googled: "Linux distro" and found www.distrowatch.com
I had no idea about Ubuntu and I would not choose it if it was not number one at that time and for the previous 12 months.
Come on, with the choice of Linuxes there is people don't look at technical details first, they look at popularity charts.
And PCLinux was number one for the last 6 months.
So what beginning users will choose? Number 2 or 1?
After they get used to KDE, switching to Gnome is not easy. After you have your settings correct, not everyone will dare to switch to Ubuntu.
That means fewer users for use, fewer developers and fewer friends.
If you cannot spare time or do not see sense in raising popularity of your favourite distro, then fine. No need to be sarcastic.
This is not to prove that our distro is superior. It is to attract more users to Ubuntu, not PCLinux!

Distrowatch clearly state that being no. 1 on the chart does not make it the most popular.
Also, I don't think as many people find Linux on their own - someone else tells them about it. This makes the ratings irrelevant. But I guess that's not in all cases, like yours:)

I can see your point. While it's well known here that PCLinuxOS users rig the votes, it wouldn't be to new users. They'll see the chart, see that PCLinuxOS is #1, and go straight to it right away.
Of course, some of us never even knew of DistroWatch when they started out. They ended up on the incredibly user-friendly LinuxISO.org (http://web.archive.org/web/20050303092328/http://www.linuxiso.org/). Fun times...

I never used Distrowatch to see what distro I was going to use. I went to linux.org and read through the list of available distro and made my pick that. Eventually I went to Distrowatch but I was using it for comparison purposes. I never paid attention to what the most popular form of Linux was. So I don't think it matters.

If it's important to you, go to that list, change the period to 30 days and click REFRESH. It shows Ubuntu at #1 and PCLOS at #2. Ubuntu is "UP" and PCLOS "DOWN".

The true number one is Linux Mint. Sorry Ubuntu but your not that user friendly.
And until you are you can forget about being number one.

How do you get that?
As a Debian user, how do you define "user friendly"?

A few points I'd like to make: Ubuntu actually is still number one on DistroWatch, since Xubuntu, Kubuntu, and Linux Mint are all direct[i] Ubuntu derivatives. Add up all those clicks, and it's more than PCLinuxOS. DistroWatch rankings are not popularity anyway. PCLinuxOS is actually a good distribution, so who cares even if they were "number one"? I haven't had much luck with it, but a lot of people seem to like it. Use what works best for you. The first distro you try isn't necessarily the one you stick one or the best one for you. When I first started using Linux, I tried Blag and didn't stick with it. A year later, I tried Ubuntu (which, at the time, was ranked #1 on DistroWatch) and didn't stick with it. I ended up using Mepis for a while (which I think was ranked #5 on DistroWatch at the time). Only later, because of the forum community [I]here did I switch back to Ubuntu--nothing to do with DistroWatch rankings. I don't know whether or not PCLinuxOS fanatics rigged the rankings or not. If they didn't, it would be a shame if we did. If they did, it'd be a shame if we sank to their level.

Distrowatch's rankings aren't accurate for more reasons than I care to list, but the point is, that the rankings don't reflect actual usage. I spend more time on distro pages that are not Ubuntu because I already know about Ubuntu and I use Distrowatch to learn about distros which I don't use or know very little about.
Did PCLinuxOS cheat? I don't know. It could just be sparked interest based on news of a new release and because of it's top ranking, it just never left as people continued to click on it, even long after the new release had come out. New releases always increase Distrowatch rankings. It's painfully obvious that they are not the top distro because their forums are near empty compared to Ubuntu Forums.
It honestly doesn't matter to me though.

PCLinuxOS is a great distro that has introduced many people to the world of Linux, as it makes for an easy transition process. And why is it a "bad thing" to get used to KDE? KDE is leagues better than Gnome (IMO) and Linus Torvalds himself said he's tired of people recommending Gnome.
I do feel that Kubuntu is a better KDE distro than PCLinuxOS. But to be honest, if I were to join a group to flood the page in order to up the ranking, I would not follow you as a leader. You have messed up your facts (sudo apt-get update will not work on PCLinuxOS, it's Red Hat-based), and you are very biased against a good distro. Plus, if you are going to flood a distro to the top, why not flood a very newbie-friendly distro, like Linux Mint?
There are so many ways you could go about doing this, other than clicking the Ubuntu link. I don't think anyone on this forum wants to spend Sunday afternoon clicking over and over for a simple number. There are soooo many different ways, far more intelligent ways, to go about this. Not calling you stupid, just saying.
I suggest a Perl/Python script.
