Which one has better design, easier to get deb packages, is faster, and looks and feels easier and sleeker?

Linux Mint is easier and better for ME. But it might not suit somebody else. Thanks to Linux we have a choice.

For the record Geubuntu had a name change,

I don't think much of E17, so I'm going to go with Linux Mint.

They both have some few goal differences. OpenGEU (Geubuntu) doesn't supply codecs and so on, which suits some people, while Linux Mint E17 does supply them. OpenGEU has that other bar at the top, while Linux Mint E17 doesn't (I don't like the extra panel in OpenGEU, but some people do.

I think OpenGEU is slower because it has the extra panel. So you really can't compare them specifically, I would say Linux Mint E17 is better, but the only reason I say that is because I manage part of Linux Mint E17 project and prefer Linux Mint over any other Ubuntu distros. The OpenGEU developer would say the same for his distro.

Solution: Try them both.

I agree with Molom :)
But I don't think OpenGEU is better even if I created it. It is just different. I believe it is easier, for example, but not better. And for the records, it is not slower because of fbpanel, Molom ;)
It is slower indeed because of the resource hungry default theme, infact I'm working to have it lighter and faster... but just change backgorund (the rest of the theme is ok, the background is not very good for very slow machines) and it is as fast as Linux Mint E17!

But I believe that a little comparison can be done only between Linux Mint E17 edition and OpenGEU.... the question seems like a "Normal" Linux Mint (gnome) against OpenGEU..... and this is not comparable at all, different DEs...

Well, afterall, I don't like this kind of matches ;)
Every distro has its goals, pros, and downs. In any case, OpenGEU will feature Automatix from the next release, and we are putting it in the repos, just to help people automatically downloading codecs and things.. but they will never be embedded like in Linux Mint (any edition) because of the OpenSource philosophy...

darkmaster, would using a .jpg image sole the theme issue?

Look, in the default OpenGEU installation there are plenty of backgrounds available. Of course an animated BG is more resource hungry than a static one. So you can choose another screenshot from those available or you can also use a jpeg, png or whatever you ahve :)
This is not an issue, the background used by defaoult is big and animated, that's why it is slow ;)
But it looks very very nice. So the issue is just that I've choosen to use an heavy background by default ;)
I had to use a easier background for the default theme. That's all. Will fix it anyway :)
i'm going to try and find a way to have a nice looking yet faster GB, let's see what can I do ;)

I don't know if its the animated background that makes it slow, darkmaster. I have installed Geubuntu in the past and removed the animated background and it still went a little slow. I think the reason its slow is because its either based on ubuntu or its because of that extra bar you placed at the top.

Linux Mint has the same issue, its a little slow because its another addon to ubuntu.

The fastest e17 distro I have used was elive, I guess its because its based on debian, but elive was one of the most unpolished e17 distros I have ever seen, because it uses an old e17 version and its control panel was made from scratch.

Linux Mint E17 has been canceled and renamed to Maryan Linux because of some small issues. Maryan Linux is based on Linux Mint and uses E17 as its main DE, Maryan Linux's developer is the same developer that was developing Linux Mint E17.

Cheers,
molomMolom,

Beautiful and very romantic naming scheme.
The name is just a mix of the Main developer’s name and his fiancé’s name (She will be my wife on the 14th of February =) )
Marvin + Yanina + Linux = Maryan Linux
It mus be pronounce as: - Ma-rian
I wish you all the best and if you ever need anything don't hesitate to ask.

Also, I will add Maryan Linux to the UEOSC (http://cafelinux.org/ueosc/) WebPage, with links.

Why was that? Same story as for OpenGEU?

darkmaster, I was wondering what was the reason for the name change?

Because the Linux Mint people thought that the E17 edition was rushing to much to make a public release.

@ All
The reason is that the Linux Mint team didn't mention the specific release scheme. So Maty and I planned to release the beta and thought that only the stable release was released by Linux Mint. Then we thought there was no fun in being so moderated, its just my taste, it doesn't mean its a bad method for everyone. So a bit of a conflict happened and the creator of Linux Mint said that he recommends making an unofficial release instead. So we took that advice (It was a great decision to change for the Linux Mint E17 team, I love the freedom) and so here we are. I don't dislike the Linux Mint community. I love the Linux Mint OS as well, and I still recommend it to people who don't like E17.

@ RAV
Marvin is the developers name, not mine just to clarify. I appreciate your comments. I hope we can help eachother with you and darkmaster as a team later on when we have finished the first release. Everyone is sick ;) of waiting, and the beta needs to be released on the 11th of Feb.

The very first distro i tried was ubuntu and from there i tried all the others; redhat, opensuse, gentoo, and a hundred "based distos" of those. I found that the only one that suited me were the Debian based ones so i figured that i would check out all the ones that were spawned from that and immediately fell in love with Mint KDE. Haven't changed since :)
