Hey guys.

Over the past week, I've been working with getting the drivers to install properly with Envy, the nVidia installer, and the Restricted Driver Manager. I finally got it working, so I installed Crossover Linux and WoW, then patched it. I checked the "Tips & Tricks" on the WoW section of the Compatibility list for performance boosts and applied the ones I could.

However, I'm still not getting good performance, and I have a fairly decent PC. Not the greatest, but most definately not the worst. Shattrath is basically unplayable for me unless I turn the draw distance all the way down, which really ruins the graphics because you can only see a few feet in front of you. And the performance is still terrible.

I didn't expect the performance to be perfect, but I expected it to be a -hell- of a lot better than it is. 15 FPS in Shattrath with the graphics all the way up, other than anti-aliasing which is turned off? I get 45+ in Windows with 16x anti-aliasing forced in the nVidia control panel.

Did I do something wrong, or is this normal for WoW performance?

Here's my system specs:

ASUS M2N-E SLI Mobo
2GB OCZ DDR2-800 Platinum Rev. 2
AMD Athlon64 x2 3800+
eVGA GeForce 8600GT

Resolution is @ 1024x768. I have a feeling that if I can't get the performance up to a decent level, I'll be getting rid of Linux for awhile when I upgrade monitors; 15 FPS at 1024x768 is pathetic, and I'd hate to see it at even 1440x900, let alone 1680x1050 and the like.

Anyone have any ideas?

Might wanna try the newest version of wine instead, crossover isn't mainly for games and WoW is just stable there, I think wine will do better, I get ~50FPS in shattra with deacent settings and more or less the same system as you have

Hmmm, alright.

Will I have to reinstall WoW, or could I just download Wine and run it with the current install?

You don't have to reinstall :)
