View Full Version : Another silly adobe/macromedia petition

I know these never make a difference, but I'd like to see how many people would be interested in signing the Adobe and Macromedia for Linux (http://www.petitiononline.com/adMaLin/petition.html) petition.

I am also thinking of creating a website devoted to getting adobe on linux, because after a month of running Ubuntu just fine, and using the GIMP, as a professional web developer, I have to go back to Photoshop CS/CS2. (meaning, I don't have the time to spend doing a 10 second job with 60 seconds worth of scripts)

I'm really hoping that if adobe ever went to linux, other developers would be encouraged to work on the GIMP to be more industry standard, rather than hobbiest. (I know GIMP enthusiasts think it is professional now, but that's because most of the developers I've talked with on the mailing lists haven't used photoshop since version 5.5 or before)

So, if you would, please sign the petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/adMaLin/petition.html) and hopefully show Adobe that the linux community is interested in their products.

I am also a pro, but will not sign the petition unless it asks for an open-source linux version.
The Gimp may not be good enough for you, but it suits my purposes just fine (and I have had ps experience up to cs).

I have to agree with Jeremy on this one if they do migrate open-source is definitely a must!!!

I'd rather sign a petition to the GIMP community, then, to make the GIMP more industry-standard, and to the corporate graphics world to put more funding into the GIMP ...

Anyway, not least because I think an industry-strength GIMP will probably come sooner than a Photoshop for Linux - unless they already started making one, of course.

And as far as I can see, there's no way Adobe would make Photoshop free/open source - that's not their business model.

You defined the problem pretty well there. It is possible to get the job done with Gimp. But Photoshop has features that make the job easier/faster.

I think what needs to be done is a list of things that people usually do with images but that there is no quick/easy way to do with Gimp and suggestions on how to implement a quick/easy way to do those things. Then send that wishlist with a petition to the Gimp devs.

They probably need some more resources too to catch up to Photoshop. Wonder if any companies could be willing to pay to speed up Gimp development...
