kdenlive problem

I have loaded a long video into kdenlive.

My presumably simple task is to split up the video into separate files.

I understand the inpoint/outpoint, but I am unable to save the subclip in a format that will allow me to view the movie.

I do not see render as one of my menu items.

Bring the video to the timeline.
Split the video with the "razor" tool and save the part with different names or select a zone on the timeline to render.
You can render a selected zone using --> file --> export timeline.
