I just got Ubuntu server 7.1 and I am folowing a tutorial on how to set it up. So far it is all in console. I am just wondering when I have it all set up if I can boot into non console mode.
Here is the link to the tutorial I am using:

You can install a desktop to that
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
or any flavor you want.
Some people install the server without apache etc then the progs they want so they have a minimal install with their own choice of desktop.

ok great!
Being able to copy and paste these command will speed everything up so much!
Also it will help later when I am building my web directory.

A GUI for a server, I would recommend installing something lightweight like JWM, Fluxbox, IceWM, Openbox, or something of that nature.
Because if you don't want to waste system resources on running a Destop Environment like Gnome, you could install something lightweight.

well, this is going to be a small server, and I am inexperienced, so it would help to know my way around.

Well, if you wish to run a desktop system as a server, then I suggest installing Xubuntu. It is a light weight desktop and will make a good server.

Ok, I am setting up another server and I need to do this again. Is there a way to install the desktop enviroment without all the extras?
All I need is:
a) Firefox
b) Pidgin
c) Gedit
d) Gimp
I don't need all those extra games and programs that come with it. What is the easiest way to do this?
