Nah... I gots nothing against you. If it weren't for the fact that one of my classes is forcing me to use Java (as opposed to C++ or C), I wouldn't have even mentioned this...
I like to have as much power as possible over my programs (short of going into the assembler) and Java doesn't allow me that, but C and C++ do.

i spend too much time on forums and reading news and politics and stuff.
sometimes i even do homework, although its not really a hobby. but it is stupid and it is mundane so i thought it was worth mentioning.
but even though all this might sound boring, it keeps me busy. and id much rather be doing this stuff than playing sports or doing something stupid like that. at least like this i actually learn something along the way, even though it is just a waste of time.

Lessee...in my 'free' time, I usually take care of my 2 young children so that my wife can relax. Not really a stupid/mundane/embarassing though.
For the past several years I've been working on building a KITT replica. It's been on hold for the past nearly 2 years since having a family and son take most of my spare time and disposable money. It's a large lawn ornament now, so I'll get around to it one of these days!

:) It's not lately. The healing properties of a lot of herbs have been known for millenia. It's only recently (past couple of centuries or so) that some cultures seem to have pushed aside that knowledge.
Companies caught on awhile back. Bayer got aspirin from the inner bark of the willow tree. The active ingredient in some arthritis medicines is capsaicin...which is what makes red pepper so spicy. Usually, the only big difference between these store bought medications and the natural stuff is potency.

Well, we have a local doctor that has a health related Public TV show and at the end of every show, he recommends 3 things to stay healthy: proper nutrition, exercise, and to keep laughter in your life; that it's one of the most important aspects of good health. So I guess that makes tickling a healthy activity?

I regularly volunteer at elementary schools as a tutor, for those kids struggling to keep pace with the rest of the class.
What's so stupid about that? I have to sit in a chair made for lilliputians...
What's so embarassing about that? Try sitting in one of those chairs as teachers walk the hallways and peer in with a bemusing smirk. Also, occasionally the kids will take their turns making fun of me. One kid looked at my "high and tight" military haircut, called me a "pinecomb head", and the rest of the children giggled in while taking their turns on me too. I love it!
What's so mundane about that? Nothing. ever...

I collect roadmaps for a hobby. I've never actually counted how many I have, but I did count just my National Park maps, and that number is well over 400 -- and that's bout half my collection.
I also like to cook, and am a big fan of the show Good Eats on Food Network.
I also enjoy Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block -- Family Guy, Futuama, Harvey Birdman, Space Ghost, and of course, Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
I'm also a huge fan of Mystery Science theater 3000 and Monty Python.
EDIT: I'm also active in the hobby of Scambaiting.

Not so bad:
I DJ, I tinker with Linux (don't we all?). I also enjoy wine tasting.
Little weirder:
I like to go on Urban Explorations from time to time (exploring old defunct buildings).
I troll en.wikipedia.org and make sure nothing's being vandalised, and try to improve articles where I can.
Lots of strange:
I like finding the best ways to melt tin cans, short of thermite.
I enjoy rail-way trivia (I'm probably getting a job with Caltrain to work their Gilroy->San Francisco line, operated by Amtrak).
I also enjoy feet and tickling (Who said that originally?)
I like the once-every-couple-of-months Cigar Tasting... even though I've only done it once so far. (Don't inhale, it's bad for j00.)
Note: Wine and Cigars may be hazardous for your health, and as such I must emphasise that you participate responsibly, or not at all ;P (Liability? I dunno)

Anyway, my main hobby consists of building and racing my Mustang. It is a 1992 Mustang GT, with the 302 ci (5.0L) motor . Things that I have done to it so far include: swapping from a stock, automatic transmission to a modified/race-prepped 5 speed. I have also put an Innovative 66mm turbo on it, as well as added methanol injection. Nothing beats the adrenaline rush of spinning your tires at 70mph on the freeway, IMO.
And during the winter months when racing isn't possible, I can't get enough snowboarding. I live on the mountains on the weekends.
Aside from tinkering with Linux, I'm a recording engineer and I participate in auto racing.

Somewhat normal:
I collect hello kitty "chocolat" crap, and all kinds of geisha / kimono stuff (jbox doesnt even ASK me my CC# anymore - the entire staff knows it by heart.)
I collect buildabears. Fervently.
I collect little fluffy cute bunnies... Hundreds of them.
Obscure:
When I really like an anime/manga - I create a digital "collection" of anything and everything related - so I have dvd after dvd filled with images, music, episodes, synopses, scans, trading cards, etc. of certain animes.
I go geocaching.
I collect and build water fountains. Like two or three in every room...
Just plain bizarre:
I collect packaging that has interesting or very well-done graphic design (as well as the printing / packaging errors... those are fun.)
I also keep examples of really poor engineering design (like the alarm clock you can't program to save your life - let alone turn OFF an alarm!)

Current tasks of personal interest include:
-collecting unlicensed fansubed anime is my #1 hobby.
(including any harem-like, shounen-ai, shoujo-ai, romance-comedy, romance-drama,... no mecha plz. oddly enough, I used to love watching Voltron as a kid. )
-learning the tools and process of fansubbing with karaoke effects
(still trying to figure out how to do it under linux so if anyone knows of some nice tools, PM me.)
-Streaming anime to friends (when in windows)
(if anyone knows how to do it in linux pm me with info)
-japanese studies.
It's a facinating language to me. What more can I say? :)
-photography...
-computers & multimedia.
... almost forgot: creating pocketPC themes. You can check them out here:

yeah..life..I used to have one of them.
I spend ALL my free time on the computer either in IRC, on here, or wikifying stuff for the doc facility. I don't drink, or smoke. I don't like pubs, so never go out in the evenings. I have a wife but she is already a linux-geek widow. This machine only runs linux - nothing else. I have actually sacrificed 2 previous relationships for the computer including 3 kids. This computer IS my life. I am totally addicted to computers.

A long time ago I collected fossils and stones. In retrospect that was a very stupid and boring hobby.

Here we go
I like making wooden furniture... It started out as a need, but now I just like doing it. I'm a programmer, so I guess I like the "physical" (as opposed to virtual) part of it. My masterpiece is a king-size mezannine bed (my girlfriend and I sleep on it every night). Had to build it so that we could save some floor space (we live in a studio)... Then I build the L shaped office table underneath.
I'm also a DJ, and that takes quite some time to master (I'm still not anywhere close to perfection). Again, I custom built a table to hold my turntables and mixer.

I build model rockets, study Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, and Japanese; all badly I might add. I collect foreign films and go through anime faster than underwear (a common trait among anime fans). I also enjoy political/social/environmental discourse, though I get angry a little too quickly to have any skill at it. Wow, random.

I'm a musician; well, an opera singer, really. My hobbies consist of singing jazz, playing the piano, learning to play the guitar (sore fingers... ouch!), doing folk/ celtic music on various instruments, online forum RpG's, making websites and never finish them, learning about religion, mythology, history and fiddling around with various Linux distro's. This is just a small selection, however; if I'd had enough time, I'd write some more, but I've got to go to a reheasal in the Opera in a few minutes...

playing with my computer is solely a hobby. i also like to take on projects with weird twists, like right now, i'm training for a 5k, on the 28th, without doing any running at all (not even running for my car in the rain). i also collect large numbers of empty beer bottles.

Camerahacking... I cant get enough of being one of the few linux devs for that site.
few of my friends really know how geek I am. I guess that is becuasue at school I am never hovering over a pc board with my soldering iron and my OTU camera, or writing C code.

I have really enjoyed writing long expository emails to websites that I visit often about how they should change their GIF pictures to PNG. I try to use FUD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FUD) to get them to respond to me, then act as their savior for helping them avoid the patent trolling bogeyman that owns the GIF patent.

I like music and going to concerts. Have seen Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz, Melissa Etheridge, .38 Special, Def Leppard and Journey this year. Next week, Cheap Trick. Next month, Disturbed. Couple this with watching basketball and a healthy dose of Scrabble @ www.scrabulous.com and I'm good.
I have some issues with the mentioned website and Ubuntu (likely Java's fault) but I can work around it.

Right now I have studied...Arabic and Moroccan Darija...
Are you any good at Arabic? If so, I'm deeply impressed.
I've only known one American who was able to learn it well, some guy I worked with back in my spook days. I just thought the guy was a jackass, but I pieced together that he was fluent in diplomatic Arabic and had been in ONI on one of those astonishing cable-tap subs, I think maybe the Parche, doing real-time translation of seabed wire intercepts in the gulf during high-alert episodes. Then he went on to be an in-house linguist at the cookie factory in Maryland. ;)
Other than him, everyone else I've known who tried to learn Arabic hit the brick wall almost instantly.
There's just no telling who's going to have the aptitude for learning difficult languages. I can tell you that I'm not among them. :(

I have numerous hobbies and the time to pursue them -- for example, I do crossword puzzles at a nationally-competitive level and am a voracious reader -- but I don't regard them as stupid or embarassing. Mundane...mmm...maybe.
One that is powerfully stupid is that I buy a lot of guitars and basses (about one a month) purely out of curiosity about them, which is as stupid as can be.
Last week's buy. (http://www.gretschguitars.com/repository/gretsch/images/G6119-1962HT_xl.jpg)

I would say skydiving as a stupid hobby, however thats not my perception just that of a few narrow minded types!
I am a proud anime fan, even the 'non-cool' kiddie anime that some people like to bag out! I collect Lego and a various assortment of anime toys!
Actually nothing I do I would consider mundane, and my self esteem seems to be good enough that I dont really worry what anyone else things so I dont find any of my hobbies embarrassing lol

1. I have re-read the same 20 books at least once a year for the last five years - the Master and Commander series by Patrick O'Brian. I guess that counts as a mundane hobby.
2. I collect plants that have an interesting biogeography or evolutionary history - North American Trilliums, Asian Arisaemas, plus some others. People think that's weird, especially as I grow them from seed and some take up to six years to flower. My wife gets embarrassed explaining my obsession to her friends.
3. I dress up as Zorro given any reasonable (ie. marginally socially acceptable) opportunity. That's my stupid hobby.

Are you any good at Arabic? If so, I'm deeply impressed. My Arabic isn't bad. I'm in the process of doing research in Arabic for a book I'm writing in English, so it has to be at a certain level for that anyway. I can do all the typical day-to-day stuff in Arabic without difficulty and some of the more complicated things as well. I can read and write, but I have to use a dictionary at times. I guess I'm hedging a bit because I realize that fluency in a non-native language is highly dependent on the topic and I know I have areas of great strength and areas of weakness in the language.
