Ettercap usage for MITM using ARP poisoning

I got ettercap NG-0.7.3, I run it in its GUI mode, However after having done the ARP poisoining when i check for the succes using the plugin provided it shows that ther was no poisoining on the TARGET machine...Can u please help me explaining what is going wrong.

I am using STATIC IP addresses and am behind a PROXY the TARGET 1 is the machine which i intend poisoining and the TARGET 2 is ANY which also includes the GATEWAY.

have you ever been able to get it to work? How much experience do you have with the tool and so forth? And the simple fact your behind the PROXY worries me about your intentions, have you tried it on the other side of the proxy?
