This is my first time trying to use Linux, and it's not going too well. My situation is that I have a Dell Latitude D630 Laptop that came pre installed with windows vista ultimate. I can't stand it but must have it for school. So I would like to dual boot with vista and ubuntu. Since this is my school computer, I didn't want to have to partition my hard drive (something could go wrong and I would have to reformat...not good) and as a result I used Wubi to install. Everything seems to have gone well, but I keep getting the 'fatal error : no screens detected' x-server error.
I have read a few posts on this issue, and when I try to open a terminal and type in sudo dpkg-reconfigure-phigh xserver-xorg it just askes me for my login and password, after which it tells me that ubuntu is freeware and such. I can't actually type the command in. Then it continues to ask me for my login and password. I tried using 'root' as my login but then it won't let me type in a password and if I hit enter it tells me I have an incorrect password. I can't get to the correct palce I don't believe to type in this command properly. Am I missing something?
System Information:
-Dell Latitude D630
-processor= Intel Core 2Duo T7100 1.80 GHz
-RAM = 2GB
- 32 bit operating system
- Graphics = NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M4

Thanks for any help you can offer me :)
