With compiz fusion running on my ATI X1300, whenever I try to watch videos or play gl games, use apps etc. I get some really bad flickering.
I've seen suggestions to disabple pageflip in xorg, but was wondering if there was an 'official' workround.

Same problem here and not only on videos. Matlab's toolbars desapear but I solved that problem by altering the luncher code as posted here in ubuntu forums but Gmsh for instance also have GUI problems when compiz is on. I think this asks for a global solution, I mean, changing something on compiz or the drivers rather than in the individual softwares.

I've seen suggestions that if you have a slower CPU you could experience issues, but even a Sempron (which I have) running at 1.8 GHz should be enough if coupled with a half decent card?

I'm running an Intel Core2 Duo 2.2GHz with an ATI HD2600, i don't think CPU or graphics board are a problem.
This is not the link I used but it has the same solution http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=514925&highlight=matlab
