cinelerra files not fully loading problem.

i just finally got cinelerra installed and i am every happy about it and all, so i started it up and all then boom! A huge problem that i just don't know what to do about! when i load a video file from DVD there is no audio, and when i load a video file from avi, no video. Well then i thought i could just load both and use the audio from the avi and the video from the dvd (same movie). Well that didn't work, because the audio from the avi loaded with a few lumps (stuck in parts), so it was out of sync. Anyone have this problem before? Is there a fix? A workaround? please help!

PS: the videos work fine in a video normally, and i even tried a few different ones, but no luck.

With avi that not work I suggest to convert it on mpeg or avi-dv with ffmpeg or mencoder ( try to find how-to with google)
