Mod/admin if i posted this in wrong section pleae move the post ..

I believe many of your people who just recently switched to Ubuntu for the fun of it ... might not like the way the menus are set up wouldn't would be nicer having the same style as win98 etc like having the clock on the right side .. menu on the left well here is how i customized mine probably the closest i could copy win98 ..:lolflag:

I have seen that this interface makes it easier for people to use it ,,,for someone used win and switched to ubuntu has less difficulty....to locate things around

Cool. I use Enlightenment, though, and the menus are already like this. :p

KDE is a good Desktop Environment for newer users as well...I find it very similar to Windows

That's exactly how I organized the menus in the Ubuntu machines in my dad's cyber cafe. People who have never used Linux feel more comfortable with this layout. I also change the name of Trash to "Recycle Bin" :P

My wife wanted her computer to "feel" like XP, so I did the best I could to accommodate her. I know some of the graphics are off and the start button is a complete ripoff, but I created the rest in Gimp and it works for her. Yay! she has been assimilated.

That's very nice work. maybe a shot of what the menu looks like expanded? I think I might use this when installing it on computers of people that are accustomed to XP. Any place I can get this as a theme?

Here is a screenshot of the panel menu expanded. I created this GTK theme from another theme I had hijacked and replaced the images and tweaked the gtkrc. It does have a few glitches but if you like I will upload it so you can have it.

I'd be careful with themes like that for new users. They may think that the operating system you are giving them is a free version of Windows XP/Vista/OSX Leopard/etc.

tawhid111 (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=479453) : how hard was it for you to set it up like that?

i imagine others will find it very easy to do.

Ubuntu isnt trying to be a windows clone.

And as smartboyathome (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=264712) says, you may be creating false expectations.

Better to let them work it out with your help. Rather than trying to hide the reality from them(as windows does)

If anyone is interested in the theme I made for my wife, you can download it from here. Not looking for criticism, it is juat that dRock1286 was interested in it. It may still need some work, enjoy!

It was very very easy .... ubuntu will be ubuntu you cannot change that ... and theme ... look at windows .. there is soo many appz for additional themes it will certenly not hurt anyone creating themes for ubuntu

example windows looking like a MAC ... its windows but made it look like a mac .. but its not a mac .. and it will never be one ..
so ubuntu will stay ubuntu adding themes to it will not make it a clone of xp or falsify anything ..

i simply wanted the navigation of ubuntu just like windows ... the start panel and desktop icons etc ..

I appreciate all the kind words, I took the advice of adding it to gnome-look.org and it can be found there. The original idea was to make my wife feel more comfortable with Ubuntu. I will make a new "start" button and add it to the theme.

Thanks again.
