Hi ... since I almost always end up buying hardware that only works under protest I thought I'd ask first...

I've got a laptop running Ubuntu 7.10 and a Roland RD700SX sitting next to it waiting to talk to each other. I want to buy a USB (or other) midi interface to do connect the two and work with the usual suspects for audio apps.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

I got the same config. Ubuntu laptop w/ RD700SX. Have you managed to make the 2 talk to each other. I haven't tried but I would very much like to.

Have you tried connecting them directly. I was wondering. What did Ubuntu say? Did it recognize the piano as a midi device?

Thanks

Hi marinero - not yet; I thought that the USB port on the RD was just for dumping setup config files back and forth so didn't try. There is mention of the RD700SX in various bits of linux code discussions if you google; but all I've found so far are mentions of m-audio, both positive and negative.

If i get time I will try today to connect the two together this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
