Just wondering if any one has gotten the M-audio uno interface (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Uno-main.html) to work and record in ubuntu. I play piano and would like to be able to mix some keyboard with Hydrogen drum beats. If anyone has got this working or knows how that would be great.

If not possible at the moment, has anyone got any usb midi devices working for a decent price.

I have an M-Audio Fast track Pro. Most devices supposedly will work plug n play since Ubuntu uses ALSA. Ubuntu Studio is really good for coming with all the programs you need like JACK, Rosegarden, Hydrogen. I'd highly recommend going into Synaptic and at least installing the Ubuntu Studio Audio package under Meta Pacakages.

I'm kind of lost now, alsa sequencer detects my usb midi device, but I'm not sure what program to go ahead and use to record with it and change instruments and such.
Edit: Wait ok well I have seem to have got it to work, now when im recording in rose garden i can see a reaction when im playing the keyboard, although i cant seem to hear on playback right away. I'm going to install flac and convert hopefully that fixes my problem

Update: All right fixed that just played it back trough the keyboard in midi out. Now how can I Change Instruments of a file after its recorded.

I'm not all that familiar with Rosegarden. but it seems like you should be able to right click on the contents of a track and open it up with the Matrix editor. There you can switch the instruments with the dropdown labeled program.
