I have a P3/1Ghz box, with Audacity, Reason 2.4, CM studio, all under Windows XP Pro SP2, & an old Yamaha sound-card, & a legacy (Virge) video-card. I'm fairly happy with the set-up, but Windows is crashy with it:(
I am saving-up for a M-Audio 24/96 PCI card to improve latency & reduce hangs & crashes....

I'd rather run all under Ubuntu, & am wondering if anyone could advise as to which flavor would run WINE with least latency for Reason & CM studio, or can I run Ustudio with the Xubuntu GUI? (to reduce CPU load?

Finally, thanks to all for the advice about Lexmark printers, it's working fine:)

That's exactly what I'm doing (Ubuntu Studio w/XFCE ) :) I have a 1.3Ghz celeron w/512MB RAM, & found the Gnome -Nautilus enviroment a little cpu heavy for me, so I installed the Xubuntu desktop. Here's an article that explains how easy it is to install & switch between the different desktop environments.

But with ubuntu studio running the xubuntu GUI will we be able to keep a similar appearance? I actually enjoy the black and background of gutsy.

Thanks.

There are some dark themes for Xfce. Check here;

There's also some good info on Wineasio on the reaper forum in this thread;
