blank screen saver

The screen saver on my computer is not working at all. It doesn't matter what screen saver i choose, it is always a blank screen. How would i begin to figure out what the problem is?

I don't know if this helps but i have another ubuntu machine and the screen saver works there. The only difference is that the monitor is regular and the one that doesn't work, the monitor is widescreen.
