Hi there,

I never thought I would say this, but I am in love with a penguin.

However, there is a dark side. I NEED to run photoshop for my job.

Photoshop 7 is working under wine, but doesn't support some of the functions I need.

Photoshop CS2 works, but I can't activate it

Photoshop CS3 doesnt work at all.

So you guys are my last hope. I need to run photoshop CS3 in ubuntu, or switch back to windows.

I have no idea how to do this, the tutorials in the stickies dont work for me, as I can't install vmware for hardware reasons.
I am on a laptop with :
ATI Radeon X1400
1GB RAM
Intel centrino 1,83ghz Dual core

Any chance anyone can save me from resorting back to windows ?

What do you need to do that GIMP, Scribus, Inkscape, Xara Extreme for Linux, combined with gThumb, can't?

probably. Not much. But first of all , I have been working with cs3 for ages, I have a huge amount of resources for it.I paid a lot of money for it. The entire suite works together so well. And almost everyone in my job area uses it. So I would also have compatibility issues.

Have you tried virtualbox? It worked decently for me with worse hardware than yours. Either that or vmware, any should do.

well if, I want to install vmware in the add/remove programs dialogue it says :
"VMware Player cannot be installed on your computer type (i386). Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided to not support your computer type."

Any other ways of doing this ?

virtualbox works great and i hear even better than vmware trying to run xp i use it with 192mbs on my virtual machine and it runs super fast, although i have 2gigs of ram, although 1gig of ram should work good too

Yes, try virtualbox, it is quite easy to install and works very well, just download the .deb from www.virtualbox.org.

Try VB

It's easier to install & works fine. I also use VB to run Macromedia flash

Vbox > VMWare. I use VirtualBox to run Photoshop and select other apps that I cannot locate decent alternatives to. =]

I've got VirtualBox up and running XP. I use CS2 for my photography, and it runs like a champ under VB. Actually, it seems to work a bit faster when I'm running it under VB. I have no experience with VMWare, but I'm sure you'd get similar results.
