Another "Desktop effects could not be enabled" Gutsy thread

Hi,

I've read through as many posts as possible but have not been able to figure out the issue I am receiving from compiz on gutsy gibbon.

I'll try to put as much information as possible.

This is on an old Gateway M275 laptop. I think it has 256MB of RAM. Please help!

Check System > Administration > Restricted Drivers Management

Depending on what kind of card you have. You may not be able to run Compiz-Fusion. It also would be helpful to have at least 512 mb ram.

I only have a modem on restricted drivers. If you reference the lspci output, I'm running the intel 855 integrated graphics chipset

Open your xorg.conf being root:
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
And change this:

Restart X and see if it worked.

I just did that and the screen went blank with a blinking underscore showing. My computer fans turn on (I suspect from a pinned CPU?). I had to hard boot it and revert to the vesa driver. This is pretty aggravating!!

I figured it out. During the gutsy install, I accidentally hit enter and bypassed selecting the resolutions allowed for xserver. Reinstalled and everything works!
