Does anyone have any recommendations on books that go over all a person needs to know about linux networking and servers.
Right now I am looking for info on setting up a mail server, how to automate regular mysql backups, and how to set up a proxy server, but of course that is just what I need to know right now.
I guess I am looking for a book that you may regard as the "bible".
Thanks is advance.

there seems to be a huge amount of stuff to know about linux apps and i don't believe that a single book can cover it all. If you look into a mail server right now you should have seen how very complex things can get when many processes are being coordinated to work in harmony under linux. Just do it like me: chew through a bunch a howtos until you got what you need.

there is specifically the linux bible that can be purchased a number of places. there are distro specific books as well that deal with various server setups.
i agree with elvinatom though that you might need to just get a look at a handful of howtos and go from there.
this is ubuntu specific good start:

this is various server setups as well for ubuntu:

you sound like you might need/want a underlying knowledge or skill base in linux though in general. try the linux administration book or a linux + book of any kind.

Thanks guys.
It just seems that there is a lot of Linux books on the market, but I don't want a book that goes over how to install mp3 codecs and how to create small python scripts. I am looking for a book that focuses on the core.
I admit I like books more than digging around on the internet. It is so much faster.
Maybe I wasn't specific enough in the first post, if not thanks for the advice.
** Update
I see that http://www.howtoforge.com/ is a pretty good source of info.

The closest you can get to "all you need to know is" LPI Linux Certification in a Nutshell, Second Edition (http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/lpicertnut2/index.html) View the table of contents at http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/lpicertnut2/toc.html
