I do a lot of restoration of old computers. I usually end up using a drive washer and reformatting, but there are times, including one I'm working on now, where I don't want to reformat, but would like to cleanse the free space of any deleted files. I know there are commercial programs that support this (i.e. Window Washer). Does anyone know of a freeware program that will do this?

I don't think that CCleaner wipes free space. I have used Eraser in the past. Seems to do the job.

Dban ....( Darik's Boot and Nuke) it works great, I have used it for wiping the hard drive completely clean, and its free. It is the best thing out there if you need to wipe a hard drive clean...don't know about wiping just a partition....read the FAQ.

Yes, I know about DBan. My goal this time is to clean up free space (i.e. prevent files from being undeleted) without destroying the Windows installation. Thanks anyway!

CCleaner does wipe files.
