View Full Version : DVD+RW as opposed to DVD-RW on White Darter?

Hi,

I'm getting ready to do my first backups (I know I'm late to the game) and I want to know if my white Darter (DARU1) will write to DVD+RW discs, which are evidently different from DVD-RW. Apparently the "plus" discs will allow random incremental writes, whereas the minus discs need to be erased first before being written to.

Advice? Thanks.
Harris

Here's the specs for it:

Specifiations: Drive Type: DVD+/-RW (+R Double Layer) / DVD-RAM Drive. Storage Removable / Interface Type: IDE. Enclosure Type: Internal. Speed: 2X(2.4X)/4X/24X/24X/8X/24X.

So, it looks like it should handle DVD+RW. I don't recall ever actually using one, though.

I would suggest another media for backups. I have two Western Digital (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=387) drives and could not be happier with them.

They are very portable, do not require a power source beyond the USB cable and you can rsync your entire Darter to one place.
