Heroes of Might and Magic V - 2D Graphics go screwy

If I hit "Esc", or anything goes over the controls on the bottom right side, they go all nuts. It seems to pick random graphics in place of the buttons. The mouse cursor does the same thing if it isn't in hardware mode.

I am using an ATI graphics card, on and AMD 64 bit system running Gutsy 64.

Any help would be great.
