Here is my idea which addresses itself to all hobby and amateur webpage makers like me:

Lets link our new webpage together by links:) á la I put your links on my and you put my link on yours.

We can also create a common logo for our linklist.

I have attached my first idea.

Waiting for your replies. thank you

:) I'll be the first to join!

Where on my website would you like your site's link to be placed?
On the Post-install Page (http://users.bigpond.net.au/hermanzone/p5.htm)?
In between GIMP (file:///media/WEBSITE/Website/p5.htm#GIMP) and KompoZer (file:///media/WEBSITE/Website/p5.htm#Kompozer)?
Or somewhere else, take a look around and let me know.

Regards, Herman :)

I would like to see any great documentation from small sites to be able to be as popular as the bigger sites. Smaller sites may sometimes be more up-to-date...

Hi Herman

You have a great site with much useful content,
I am very glad to link you from my page,

Visit your new link at my page. Navigate to Partners, and you are the first one. I have put a short short description of your page next to the link but I am open for your ideas.

Coming back to the placement of my link... I am an easy person, put it where it fits in.perhaps with a small logo of my page, you can resize it if it is too big...I attach it

hi az
you are right concernign the up to date statut,
it is rather an "up-to-the-every day usage-status", there are hundreds, perhaps thousands possible configurations of a PC. And perhaps not every big popular site is able to cover my specific perhaps unique problem with XY. For instance my Broadcom driver is working wright now. I have read many howtos dealing with this issue. I have tried many ways to set up my wireless. But there was and there still is a step which was not documented or which I have done differently than described.

I have submit my site to the Ubuntu Knowledge database.. a great idea.

:) Okay,
jan quark, I put both yours and az's sites on the home page of my site, right under the Official Ubuntu Links, which are right below the site index. Take a look whenever you like and see if that looks okay.

Thanks az! I actually found your UbuntuKnowledge.org (http://ubuntuknowledge.org/) accidentally while browsing one day and bookmarked it already, but I wasn't really aware of what it was all about until now. I think that's just what we need! :)

your placement of the links is very appealing:)

I have also added Aysiu's website to the Partners linklist. I hope I have the permission to do that?

Cool! :)

I don't know but I wouldn't imagine anyone who owns a website minds having more other websites linking to theirs. I always consider it a compliment if someone likes my website enough to want to link to it. Sooner or later he'll probably find this thread and he can let us know if he wants anything changed. :)

Hey, would you like to learn how to put your logo up in front of your URL and make it appear in the tab we get with your page title in it in browser tabs? It'll appear in people's bookmarks if they bookmarks your site too.

Take a look at the html code used to make some other people's web pages and you'll see how it's done.
To do that you just right-click on a web page, like mine for example, and click 'view page source' from the right-click menu.

(I hope I'm not telling you things you already know, but never mind, even if you already know this, it'll help someone else if they happen to read this).

You'll see some html code in my webpage somewhere around the top of it that looks like, <title>Illustrated Dual Boot Site</title><link rel="icon" href="p1/outback.png" type="image/png"><meta content="X" name="author"> The middle part of it in between where it says : title>......and......<meta is where I have added some code that looks like this,<link rel="icon" href="p1/outback.png" type="image/png"> p1 is the name of the directory my image is in, and outback.png is the name of my logo. It's my avatar too.
You should be able to do the same thing if you open up your .html page with your text editor like gedit, and paste in the same code after your website's title too. Just alter the path and file name to suit your own image file.
My logo is 90x90 pixels, but I don't know if there's a maximum or minimum size limit or not. 90x90 is for our Ubuntu avatar, so that's why mine's that size.

thank you for the idea with the icon, I will certainly give it a try.

Perhaps you have a minute or two of free time... I started a new big prohject on my website. Its called BIG GIMP tutorial. Perhaps you can have a look on it and tell me your opinion. IYou can find it in the tutorials section.

:) Great! :)

I am impressed!
Your new GIMP tutorials are great! The first one is good because you don't try to tell people exactly what to do but let them explore for themselves, but at the same time you do tell them exactly just enough to get them started off. The most common question I have seen about GIMP is how to draw a straight line. It seems like you are a genuis! :)

Only one comment/question: Will the new user know how to pick a color without having that explained a little bit?
I knew what to do because I have used GIMP a little already, but a new user might just need a little extra help.
But not too much because that's what I liked about it. It's 'intuitive'. :)

Second how-to 'Lights',
I found an image but it was small and not enough black around it. So I made a new image the size I wanted with a black background and dragged and dropped the downloaded image into the black background. That fixed it quick.
I wonder if it would be worth telling them they can make the image Width: 1024 pixels Height: 768 pixels so they can use it for a desktop background later if they want? Or maybe that will be better left to a later lesson.
By the way, I really like your Desktop backgrounds too! :)
Once again, an excellent how-to. You taught me some new tricks! Here it is just the right balance between giving people the right instructions and still letting them do some things for themselves.
People will have fun following your steps and that will teach them at the same time, while making themselves something nice!
Mine came out a little bit too dark, I don't know why, I will try again.

Very good! Maybe run the spellchecker over it and it's all done!
Probably don't listen to me too much either, you are doing well without any help, I don't want to interfere too much.
Keep up the excellent work,
Regards, Herman :)

thx for your opinion, every perspective other than mine is going to enchance the usability of the webpage.

In the next days I am going to cover some more topics and slowly the cool stuff I can do with Gimp will be put online.

I have also changed the Partners page, added some nice looking pictures as links to the webpages.

But there is still much work to do...:)

Okay Jan,
I checked and hey! It's coming along very nicely. I like the icons for the websites. Looking good! :)
I know what you mean it's can keep us very busy making a website and then keeping it up to date. I'm busy working on mine too.
Someday when you have time, I'm not very good with colors, if you can tell me where I have the wrong colors somewhere I would appreciate it. But only when you have a lot of spare time. Not right now when you're busy.
If you see anything else wrong you can tell me too. :)

Regards, Herman :)

i think the link you posted is based on an other idea.

i want to link ubuntu enthusiasts together, not existing professional pages.
