I wanted to set p vmware player to run my pre-existing windows install from Ubuntu, but I have run into a hiccup. I got a bit discouraged the last time I was using VMware, so I uninstalled it. Not, VMware is not available in Automatix2 (the site says it will be added) and when I try to install it manually, I am told an older version of Vmware is already installed, so the new one cannot be. I cannot find anything about vmware being installed, and I cannot attempt to remove it. Any tips?

You must completely uninstall whatever vmware you had before on your machine before you can install a new version. Go into Synapitc and do a Search for vmware and Mark for Complete Removal the vmware items.

Then you should be able to install a new version.
