virtual box problems

i setup my linux vm and it works great only problem is that the screen resuloution is off. when i go to configure it it doenst give me a 1280x800 option. what should i do

when you start your vm, at the top menu select devices -> install guest additions. Is this a windows guest or a linux guest?
