My cousin recently bought a laptop with vista on it and he couldn't
play World of Warcraft on it(It would freeze up).So now
he has ubuntu on it and hasn't gone back.

If Ubuntu's competition is defective by design (http://www.defectivebydesign.org) that is a good thing.

Thats exactly what I said when Vista came out, that Mac sales are up , and Lunux usage would go up as people found out how f******D up VIsta is, now there saying , theres problems with DRM, Noooo, you don't say... I have Vista on my new Laptop, couldn't get XP, IF/When Vista starts giving problem I'll have my son put XP on it,, I don't do teh Netflix and download movies or buy music fome online stores, so I shouldn't have a problem with DRM... YET

That's the only reason I bought Ubuntu at least the main reason.

I disagree to a degree, if the competitors get better, then surely Ubuntu and the open source community will respond to become even greater.

i have been useing ubuntu since 6.06 but thought i would bring up a good point,

I think most people think vista sucks ( i will agree to a point ) but most "walmart special" laptops simply are ment to be running vista , they come with 512m of ram?? and the processor is too slow, but a disent computer like my Aliienware aurora 7500-r4 easily runs vista even witht he bloatware

AMD athlon 64 x2 6400+ ( just look for AMD black edition)
2gb of ram
nvidia 8800gt ( got that to work in ubuntu no sweat, remer terminal is your friend)
ageia physics card, ) would be cool to get that to work in ubuntu though)

anyway, point is vista does suck, but the computer manufacters need to stop being so cheap computers designed for XP just dont run vista, palin and simple

Canonical and the community are good for Ubuntu
I believe that the ones disappointed with Vista go back to XP, instead of installing Linux - an unfamiliar OS which they don't know

Up to me, a "basic" user simply can't use Ubuntu without anybody to help. I don't even imagine what my grandma would do with an Ubuntu...
Ease of use is the (only?) good point of Windows (XP/Vista/What ever)...
Type : "sudo apt-get install XXX" grandma ! :D

A lot of people don't use linux in general. is because average joe doesn't even know what linux is.
"you have vista then?"
me- nahh i use Ubuntu....Linux
"thats the mac stuff isn't it?"

That was this morning. at work. i spend the next hour or so talking about the pro's and cons between OS X, LINUX, and windows...
Though after a few minutes it just turned into a windows bashing.

Sure, i should have been working, but i get cought up slagging off windows.

I think if more people knew about it, they'd try it and probably not like it, mainly because its different.

The fact that it works doesn't matter when people refuse to play with something new.

Sad i know. but true.

I quite like people not knowing about linux. If it was everyones PC it would seem weird. Though i don't have a problem helping people out, or reccomending it when people are sick of windows messing up.

The amount of people i've met that think its normal for a computer to need fixing ever 6 months...

what was the post about again i got cought up ranting :P
