Hi,
I have noticed that Inkscape seems to run very slow. e.g. 6 secs to load Fill and stroke dialog.
Here is the computer's spec:
Intel Pentium 4 1.6GHZ
Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti200
1GB Ram
80GB HDD
Any ideas?

When I tried running Inkscape in the terminal, it didn't show any error messages.

Ok, are you using any images with it and switching windows? It takes time to render images in Inkscape.

I'm not using any images just shapes and gradients. (SVGs)

I have a idea. Try to give Inkscape a whole workspace and do not open atything else there. This might make it run faster. Let's hope! :)
To have a idea of workspaces, have a look at this nice clip (http://ubuntuclips.org/videos_30.html).
Good Luck!

Your better off making the document size smaller, if you making icons then something like 64x64. Turing off compiz may help as well.

Thanks guys for your tips. But I need to use A4 as the size of the document.
Running inkscape without anything else didn't help and neither did switching off compiz. :-(
