Nexuiz stuttering

I've just got Nexuiz and from lifl.org (I think that's what it's called) installed it, but whenever I run the game, it stutters and freezes now and again the frame rate seems to be very low. I haven't got a low end graphics card (ATi RADEON All-In-Wonder 9800 SE) and it can handle Half-Life 2 and all the other games pretty well, but this game is running slow. Any ideas or fixes to this problem? Thanks in advanced. I'd also like to add, I don't get sound in this game either, do I need to change settings for it?

Load a level and pull up your options menu. Go to the effects section and turn on the frame counter. Try disabling some of the effects and you should be able to see immediatly if it improves your framerates.

Nexuiz is a total bear with everything enabled. I can't run it smooth with real time word lighting enabled on my 7800gtx.

Oh yeah try running glxgears also and post the results. It's also possible something is not working right with your video drivers.
