What does this (http://img33.picoodle.com/img/img33/5/1/1/f_aliennew2m_81a37d9.png) picture look like to you?
I'm looking for details on the active window border, inactive window border, the colors of the buttons on the windows(active and inactive), the toolbar, the minimized window's color on the taskbar, the menu's top (where it says nathan-linda) and the menus main color. I am doing this because I made this theme, and people keep telling me that the toolbar is pink. I also want to know if I should get an LCD monitor by now(for correct colors)

here's what it looks like to me:
active window border=light silver
inactive window border=slightly darker silver
window button color active=light green
window button color inactive=grayish color
toolbar = light purple
minimized window taskbar=light green
menu top=same as toolbar
menu main color=black

UPDATE: as of just now I uploaded my theme (fixed of course) to box-look.org here (http://box-look.org/content/show.php/Alien?content=72713&PHPSESSID=ba856bf8101017f90da5cab13f881611)

erm, here too! Suddenly the fact so many people argue over the Ubuntu 'brown' makes much more sense to me!

maybe I should just get a new monitor. And I do think that the ubuntu brown is really ugly. But I guess that's just this monitor

Perhaps you should adjust the settings for your monitor/graphics card. Gamma and white balance (color temperature) are the usual suspects, as well as chrominance (color saturation).

Is there an objective difference between 'light purple' and 'pink'? AFAIK both are mixtures of violet and red.

That's strange. I hope everyone is talking about the toolbar at the bottom with XChat and stuff on it. I'm getting #e012e8, #360638 is another darker colour.

I've attached the difference.

Well, I thought it looked really light purple. But to me light purple is pretty much pink. No matter what you call it, it's a good color for girls.

I say it looks like bright pink and me and nathan argued over this over this for about a couple of mins so i dont know no one really has the perfect monitor

At work it looked quite pinkish. Now at home it is more like purpleish. Both on LCDs.

The green to the left of the pink was more aggressive at work, too.

Very purple. It doesn't go with the green, btw, at least not on this screen. If you want to find good colour combinations, you can use Agave (http://home.gna.org/colorscheme/). It i s a great and useful app.

Technically, you are quite right. However, using colour combinations which don't go with each other (are not 'approved' or 'orthodox') can lead to effects which can be called - er - well - hum - let's say 'bold' or 'interesting'.

Nathungrubb, I know how difficult it can be to get the colours to display right on several different screens. My latest theme, Awakened (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Awakened?content=72622), for example, looks lovely on my laptop (a blueish white) but terrible on several other screens I've tried (light purple). I don't care that much, though. If people don't like it, they can ignore it.

Yeah, its pink.

Ok,let me put this to you as gently as possible...There are some colors you do not put together..To say that looks ghastly is an understatement.=;
Whomever came up with that either never took an art class, was trying to be clever,or has a color vision impairment.
Contrast green with white or gray,don't contrast it with pink.[-X Only flowers can get away with this,cause they are flowers.
As the old saying goes:"Just because you can do it,does not mean you should do it."
That theme is a flagrant misuse of the color wheel.
I'd call that a neon or hot pink with faint purple overtones...Looks awful with the green.

The green and pink/purple remind me of the Covenant from Halo. But yes, it is definately pink.

Where you see pink, I see a light-ish (but not like..pastel) purple, and where you see red-grey, I see straight-up grey.

Same here. Though I can see the tiniest hint of red in the grey part.

Of course, all of this confusion is most likely due to the fact that the rod and cone drivers still have several outstanding bugs. :D

The pink :shock:
Here's what I see #E012E8 which fades to #F2A0F5 (bright pink) at the top and the active window in the window list is #48EF2D (bright green)
