Could it be that Microsoft actually came up with a brilliant marketing scheme.
I'm starting to see a pattern here. MS knew that they had to release a new OS soon, Vista wasn't (and still isn't fully ready -IMO) for release...it is a stop gap until Windows 7 comes out. I think they intentionally left it buggy and bloated knowing full well that a fair portion of the public isn't really going to embrace it. DRM is not popular and MS knows it, MS could argue to the entertainment industry that it wasn't popular in Vista and it will not be available in Windows 7....its their way of backing out of DRM without causing problems with "the industry"...but also saving face in the process.
MS first announces that XP will be discontinued Jan 2008, then they extend that to June 2008, then they announce they are releasing XP SP3. Note that MS intentionally made XP 10% faster..which makes Vista look bad in performance. So why would MS make (XP)...their main competitor (to Vista) .....run 10% faster?
And those that want the look of Vista, but want to keep their XP OS can get those "Vista transformation packs" which gives you a Vista GUI complete with that vertical sidebar with the clock, calender, RSS reader and photo viewer. So you can have the eye candy (of Vista) and the performance (of XP) too. These transformation packs have been out for awhile and I see no effort by MS to take them down off the web....
Was it MS intention all along to market Vista and keep XP on the market until Windows 7 comes out? Seems that way. Also those who are installing XP over their new Vista computers....who is the winner in all of this?
Microsoft!
They sold a Vista OS on that new computer that Joe Consumer just bought and now they are going to sell a XP OS to Joe Consumer too. And if MS gets Windows 7 just right, chances are Joe Consumer will buy that too!
So instead of just selling one Operating system for each computer , they can sell two...maybe three.... So what if the critics are panning Vista left and right? Microsoft is still making money hand over fist
Freaking Brilliant!
