those are links to the old sims game, not sims 2. transgaming might be releasing a sims2 mandrake edition though, however there are no links on those sites to show that.

I dunno. Maybe not unless there's a Mandrake edition in the same way that Sims 1 worked. It seems to be next to impossible to get any of the Sims games to work:

I never really liked them, but I could never stop playing them either. It's weird.

HA, right. i thought it was fun i created a family of two and the wife stayed home all day and made gnomes, i would sell them and make complete bank, it was great. in the end the game kept pissing me off cause they kept whining about not getting this or that. in the end i just set off fireworks in the house and removed the doors

according to the wine appdb entry here http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=2633 the game still doesn't work with wine. it could probably run with cedega, but i haven't tried.

slightly off topic, but are you actually still using ubuntu 4.10? if so you should consider upgrading to 6.06 and install the newest wine version.

Sorry I'm using 6.06 but was searching the forums for SIMS2 to see if I could play. :-)

I will have a go with the Cedega - thank you.

You know, I'm not a programmer, so it's easy for me to say this: I'd like to see someone create an open source life simulator (like The Sims) from scratch, stick it out on the web and make it available to other programmers to modify and enhance. I think that would be the way to go. But, again, I'm not a programmer, otherwise I'd start it myself.

Well, I just went to the EA Games website and told them that I would buy The Sims 2 and Nightlife all over again, if they made a Linux version available (or at least a Linux installer). I'm not holding my breath. Seriously, though, you would think that it would be in their best interest to support Linux. There are enough of us who want a Linux version.

EA games sucks their simcity5 sucks they outsorced that project. I like the sims original with the hot data expansion packs. At that time the art looks life like.
Now it got cartoonish how can a simulation of life look cartoonish.
Urrgghh they better step it up in thesims 3 the one that's now in development. I can make better life like simulation.

it's hard and also takes alot of time but If I knew I would make tons of money in it then I would.

The only thing thats preventing me making such a better life sim game is the time really. becuse I would have to script every actions even particles. and also make AI and then make all the 3d models that is required in the game which the more detail in the 3d models the more time it takes.

If you are so upset sims2 can't be played on ubuntu or any linux distribution. Then why don't you just play the real game of life. Like get a job or learn programming and learn 3d modeling and go and try to make your own game if your so darn unhappy that the sims2 can't be played on linux.

Looking for an update on this one. My wife wants me to install The Sims 2 but it looks like I may need a WinXP partition to get r done.

Wine looks grim:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=2633

Cedega (costs money) and still doesn't look good:
http://www.cedega.com/gamesdb/games/view.mhtml?game_id=3284
http://cedegawiki.sweetleafstudios.com/wiki/The_Sims_2

Does anyone have any experience other than what has been posted?

The new Virtual box 3.0 has directx 9.0 support. http://www.virtualbox.org/ This will allow you to load sim2 into windows running in virtual box. But when it is all loaded and you start the game it says a wrong disk is loaded ???
