Software to catalgo pictures

Hello all,
I've been trying out some programs to catalog pictures. However, it seems as all those I tried want to import the pictures while I want only to create thumbnails, for example a CD with pictures. Have I missed an option in ither of the known programs?

Hmm.. I'm not sure what the second poster is referring to..

Anyway to the OP can you be clearer about which program's you've tried?
I know that in F-spot there is a tick box when importing a folder that says "copy images" which you can disable so you just see the thumbnails.
In digikam (KDE app) you just point it to the folders with the pics and it generates thumbnails.

If you want to create actual thumbnail files then you may have to use something like "phatch" . It's NOT in the repos.. just search this forum for a huge thread on it.
