Oh boy! Windows VISTA on the Ubuntu Forums! :KS
Not easy - do some linking on this Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=t&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4DKUS_enUS242US242&q=vista+lost+password) - a lot of the options linked cost money!
Check out the MS website - KB articles are available on this topic.
Finally, the Cybertech Help Forum has had a number of threads on this specific issue - :)

You're free to ask questions about Windows here too. A lot of community members have years and years of Windows experience, and we don't turn away any question, so long as it's not rude, malicious, unethical or illegal.
P.S.: Moved to Windows Discussions, where all MS-related help topics are found. ;)

Well, I've been a Windows user for 20+ years, and am currently connected on my Dell Latitude w/ VISTA - so, just trying to offer a few suggestions - thanks for moving the thread to a more appropriate forum - :)

You need "NT Password changer" or "SAM file reader"
Search for related softwares.

I know its a month old, but do you still need help retrieving the passwords? Kinda new to the forums, so I'm not sure how much public help I can give you without getting canned.

Download the ophcrack livecd, and boot off it:
http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/
It'll find most Windows passwords. If this fails, try the livecd from http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ , which will let you reset the passwords to blank.
I use the ophcrack live cd almost daily - I have to fix a lot of password protected computers, and it's usually quicker to run ophcrack than it is to ring the customer and get their password :P
