http://forums.debian.net/ has been down now for roughly 24 hours -- anyone know anything about what has happened?

No clue what is going on i thought it was my connection.
Suppose it will be fixed the Debian way so it may stay down a little bit longer :-\"

It was an issue with the hard drive that brought it down last time, but then it was up for a day or two, and now its back down.... Its a DD that maintains the server, so it should be back up soonish.

Taken from the site,
Forums.debian.net down
Due to an unfortunate harddisk crash just before my Christmas Holidays, forums.debian.net is down until I can plug in a new harddisk. I'll do the necessary maintainance when I'm back on location, on Monday December 31st.
No posts have been lost, forums.debian.net runs on RAID5, plus there are daily backups.
In the new year, I'll work with Debian's sysadmin group to move the forum to a server in a datacentre in Amsterdam.
Anyway, happy new year!
Sorry for the very untimely inconvenience,

Glad to see that they finally got a notice up... thought is was kind of odd for a distros official forums to be 'down' for so long.

I does strike me as odd the forums get killed just because a HD crashed. Well, glad they're back.

Yeah,,, given a raid-5 system; one disk should not have caused it to go down and you would think they would use a hot swap spare.

It seems the server is at the DD's house and he was out of town for the holidays LOL

I wouldn't be hard on the guy, especially considering that he does all of the maintenance for $0. However, that server really should be moved so that more Debian people can get to it if it decides to conk out again.
Still, a RAID 5 shouldn't go down like that. I suspect something else was causing the problem along with a failing hard drive.
