SOLVED I CAN PLAY NOW.

I have just installed Xubuntu on my computer. I went to try to play runescape and I saw that i needed Java. I typed the following in my terminal
"sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts "
it installed...
and the game still will not load, I get a "Error loading Applet".
(For those of you that play the game, I'm lvl 104, User name is Maconga)
Also, I'm New to Xubuntu.

What should I do ?

EDIT: Here's a picture of what happens.

I have all the java packages you have, plus "sun-java6-bin" so maybe try installing that aswell?

How far does it get?
Do you get to the "Choose world" stage?
It works perfectly for me, so...

Not sure about other browsers for Xubuntu, but have you tried any other ones?

Did you accept java terms?
If you type about:plugins into the adress bar, can you see java there?

Try uninstalling these plugins and let Firefox find Java itself.

Do what raija said and check if java is listed when you type this into the firefox address bar:
about:plugins

Sadly I find myself here over a year after this thread began: Can't get Runescape to run in Xubuntu.

I just loaded up all the Java I could find.

Someone recommended deleting all the Java and "letting firefox find it itself" but the fellow with the problem never came back to say if that worked.

I guess I'll try it but it must be something simple. Hoping you all might be able to help.

ok I'm a newbie at linux had the same problem as the rest of you couldn't load java at the second page of runescape so began to dig further. I have ubuntu 8:10 running on the 64 bit system with a Intel dual core so really battling against the odds. In the future I will note down the actions I took. But here are the pages i looked at, begin a newbie I did most of the stuff I read but you might find the answer in these links.

I just kept on looking and poking the system until it worked, not sure but I think the nspluginwrapper had something to do with it.
By the way Runescape works for me now in firefox (well it did this morning):D and my Rs handle is Ohoaryone say hi when you get on line.

I run a 32 bit compaq. I hope someone will have luck solving this on a system more like mine.

Congrats to Snag for solving the problem for his system though.
