I'm looking for a text to speech program similar to the one in Windows. My brother is very fond of it and I can't seem to find one for Linux. I would prefer a GUI.

Have a look at Festival. It's in the repos but I don't think there's a GUI for it although I may be wrong.

I would highly recommend festival. I'm not sure about a GUI, but once it is installed simply open a command line and type "festival".

You will then get a prompt like this:

festival>

Now just type in something like this

(SayText "This is the text that will be spoken")

Festival doesn't seem to have a GUI. Is there a frontend to it?

If you're using KDE, you can take a look at this (http://accessibility.kde.org/developer/kttsd/).
