I planned to buy a new laptop for dual boots. And I choose lenovo thnikpad series. but When I read about installing Ubuntu on new lines of thinkpad It seems that lenovo's systmes have a lot of problems and need too much manuplations

So I change my mind to think about Santarosa Macbook pro because It seems that MBP have wonderful systems for Unix/Linus OS! And today, I went to the downtown to test macbook pro. +, I heard that new slim(!) 12inches mackbook(SSD and LED backlights) and new MBP is coming soon.

And Now I got a new problem! When is the best date to buy a new laptop!? How long I have to waiting for official infos about new MBP and Macbook?

p.s.

I'm Korean and many laptops for Koreans have hangul(Korean)/English key to change keyborad language easily, but mabooks doesn't. Then can I manuplate keymaps when I installed Ubuntu?

At least wait to see what Steve says at Macworld in January. That's probably when any new models would be announced... but when you finally do buy a Mac just be prepared to be drooling over the next model to drop every 6 months or so.

I type in Dvorak in both Ubuntu and OS X on my MBP, which I imagine is a fairly similar situation to what you're asking. It should work fine.

OSX is a UNIX system, and thankfully the Macbook pro's use nVidia graphics currently making a number of things easier with Linux.

I would not worry too much about the periodic Apple updates, though I certianly would wait until after MacWorld Expo as they tend to announce new products then. I haven't heard about a new Mac Book Pro, but I have heard about a very small "Ultra Mobile PC" based upon a new Intel Chipset (smaller than the Macbook and Macbook Pro), but who knows - Apple loves to be surprising!

Hi!

I am half Korean and half American. I own a MacBook and I often use Korean to talk to my Korean friends.

I can tell you that the MacBook and MacBook Pros are great laptops, I wouldn't want anything else otherwise.

MacBooks and MacBook Pros do not have a Hangul key that allows you to switch between Korean and English input methods. This is the only thing I don't like about the laptops.

Korean MacBook and MacBook Pros have the Korean labels on the letter keys just like other Korean laptops.

I don't have Linux installed on my MacBook (only Windows XP and OS X). It is hard to switch between Korean and English on OS X, and almost impossible for me on Windows (I have an American Windows installed).

However, on Linux you can use Nabi and you can edit your Xmodmap to tell your X input method editor which key you would like to register as the "Hangul" key. So all is easy in Linux and a little difficult in Windows and OS X.

I hope that helps you make a decision (and despite all that, I love MacBooks, and if I had to choose, I'd still choose it... it all depends on what you need).
