Sorry, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to Wine, but I just used it to play online and I have some questions about making it run better on my system:

1) I heard something about editing a file called winecfg to make it run a Win XP interface instead of a Win 98 interface. I can't find this file, though...where is it? [solved]

2) How can I set up Wine to maintain aspect ratio on programs I use with it? I also want my aspect-ratio-maintained program to be centered on my monitor. I can get the aspect ratio maintained, but it shows aligned upper-left.

3) I noticed when I'm playing that changes in my desktop (e.g. people sending me Pidgin messages) make my screen flash. This is distracting in games like Warcraft III. Can I turn this feature off? Or short of that, how can I make it so it doesn't interfere as much?

4) I have a wireless optical mouse (Logitech something-or-other) that works fine on regular Ubuntu, but the sensitivity is turned too high on Wine. It's not unplayable high, but it's definitely noticeable. Anyone know why this might be? [solved]

5) Does anyone know how to make Wine recognize fonts installed after it was? I installed the fonts package for Warcraft III after installing Wine and Warcraft and want to use the normal fonts.

Thanks.

Wine can be really confusing sometimes.

1) winecfg is a command, just run it and itll bring up a little interface

2) from winecfg you can set up a virtual desktop on the graphics tab

3) Turn off pidgin....

OK, so I figured out how to get it to run as Windows XP using Wine CFG (the actual instructions said to edit a config file with a text editor but I presume wincfg is equivalent).

As for Virtual Desktop mode, that makes my screen shift to the upper-left corner of my screen. I want to play my games centered with black borders (or just my desktop) along the right and left sides of the screen like I did in Windows. Is this possible?

For the screen-coming-through thingy, it's not just Pidgin. The Wireless icon on my taskbar also comes through from time to time and causes that section of my screen to blink. Is this problem solveable?

Bump. I'm particularly interested in answers to question 5 and the second part of 2 (I figured out how to use Windowed mode, but I don't like it much, so if anyone knows how to do Maintain Aspect Ratio while centering the app on the screen like Windows can do, that would rock).

Edited first post. Can anyone help with the unsolved issues? I'd like to try that Config.wtf thing, but I don't know where to find it.
